Varaždin County is located in the northwest of Croatia. Its seat is Varaždin. Varaždin is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved Baroque complexes in Croatia (Old Town, City Hall). The city has a museum, theater and university. It has also hosted the Varaždin Baroque Evenings music festival since 1971. Varaždin County borders Slovenia to the northwest, Međimurje County to the north, Krapina-Zagorje County to the southwest, Zagreb County to the south and Koprivnica-Križevci County to the southeast, and a small part of the latter separates it from Hungary.
