Valun is situated on the southern part of the Valun Bay, between two gorgeous pebbled beaches. It started off as the port of the old village of Bu}ev, the remains of which have been found by the Church of St Mark at the crossroads for Lubenice, the inhabitants of which opted for a maritime life and made a new settlement. Valun is today an exceptionally picturesque, compact settlement with sixty or so houses around a little harbour. The Tourist Office can arrange accommodation in a camp on the beach itself and in good quality private accommodation. The taverns provide fine wining and dining.
As well as the Church of St Mark and the 11th century Valun Tablet, it is worth seeing the Glagolitic Stone Collection located on the terrace of a contemporary restaurant that offers copies of the oldest Glagolitic inscriptions of Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia. Not far from Valun, on a 380 m high cliff, is Lubenice, a settlement some 4,000 years old. It is indescribable in words and simply has to be seen, to the accompaniment of superb cheese, lamb and wine. During the summer the unique Lubenice Musical Evenings are held, which a fine repertoire of serious music.
